Business Days Calculator

How business days are counted

This calculator counts the days after the start date, up to and including the end date — the convention most deadline and delivery estimates use ("10 business days from Monday" lands on the second Monday after). Every Saturday and Sunday in that span is skipped:

Business days = calendar days − weekend days − weekday holidays (holidays only when the toggle is on)

Which holidays? Only the 11 US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday (Presidents Day), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. State holidays, religious observances, and non-US holidays are not included. When a fixed-date holiday falls on a weekend, the standard federal observed date is used instead — the preceding Friday for a Saturday holiday, the following Monday for a Sunday one — because that is the day federal offices (and most banks) actually close.

Same-day dates? If the start and end dates are the same, the count is zero — no days have elapsed yet. If you enter the end date first, the dates are simply swapped; the count is the same.

Frequently asked questions

Is the start date itself counted? No. Counting starts the day after the start date, so a Friday-to-Monday span is 1 business day (Monday), not 2. If your contract or shipper counts the start day, add 1 to the result.

Why does my count differ from a bank's? Banks and government agencies may also close for state holidays, training days, or emergencies, and some use the actual calendar date of a holiday rather than the observed date. This tool follows the federal observed-date calendar only.

Do delivery services use business days? Usually yes — "3–5 business days" from a shipper means weekdays excluding the pickup day and most federal holidays, which is exactly the count shown here with the holiday toggle on.
