How they work

The timer counts down from a target. Your hours/minutes/seconds are converted to one total in milliseconds, and a target end moment is set. The display is the difference between that target and the current time, refreshed many times a second, so it stays accurate even if a refresh is delayed — it never just subtracts a fixed step and drifts. Pausing freezes the remaining time; resuming sets a fresh target from the frozen remainder. At zero the display turns red and, if the beep is enabled, a short tone is generated in the browser — there are no audio files to load.

The stopwatch counts up the same way in reverse: elapsed time is always "now minus the start moment," plus whatever was banked before a pause. Each lap stores the cumulative elapsed time, and the lap's own split is the difference from the previous lap — so splits always add up exactly to the total.

Accuracy and limits: timing is based on your device's clock and is plenty accurate for cooking, workouts, study sessions, presentations, and games. Keep the tab open — if the device sleeps or the browser is fully closed, the display pauses with it (the underlying clock math still lands on the right time when you return, as long as the page itself was not closed). It is a convenience tool, not a certified timing instrument for competition or safety-critical use.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the beep need me to press Start first? Browsers only allow a page to make sound after you have interacted with it. Pressing Start is that interaction — after it, the finish beep can play. If the beep is off or blocked, the red "Time's up" display still shows.

Can I run the timer and stopwatch at the same time? Yes — they are independent, with separate clocks and controls.

Does it work on a phone? Yes, and the buttons are sized for tapping. Keep the screen awake for the most reliable beep at the finish.
