Salary Calculator

Convert an hourly wage into a yearly salary — or a salary back into an hourly rate — based on the hours and weeks you actually work.

Your pay, every way

Before taxes, estimate only. All figures are gross pay — no income tax, payroll tax, benefits, or other deductions are included. This is general information, not tax or financial advice.

How hourly-to-salary conversion works

The whole conversion rests on one multiplication:

Annual salary = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year
Hourly wage = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year)

The quick rule of thumb you've probably heard — "double the hourly rate and add three zeros" — assumes 40 hours a week for 52 weeks (2,080 work hours a year): $25/hr × 2,080 = $52,000. This calculator lets you replace those assumptions with your real schedule. If you get two unpaid weeks off, use 50 weeks: the same $25/hr is then $50,000 a year, not $52,000.

Comparing a job offer? Use the weeks-per-year field honestly on both sides — paid vacation only counts if it's actually paid — and remember that a salary figure and an hourly figure can hide different overtime treatment. Salaried roles may not pay extra for hours past 40, so converting the offer at 45 or 50 hours per week shows the effective hourly rate you'd really be working for.

Gross vs. net: these are gross (pre-tax) amounts. Your take-home pay will be lower after federal, state, and payroll taxes and any benefit premiums — how much lower depends on where you live and your personal situation, which is why this page doesn't guess at it.
